Negative Scanning FAQ (more>>)

Can I mark the negatives I want on a negative strip ?

This is possible for a small surcharge. ScanCorner normally scans the entire negative strip, which is easier to use and therefore more efficient. If you do not need a few images in your collection of negatives, we recommend that you digitize the entire range and make the selection later on the PC, which will save you a lot of time. If you only want to have a few negatives digitized, please note this when ordering and clearly mark the selected images.

Do you restore the images after digitizing the negatives?

Even during digitization, your picture is processed with the help of the so-called digital ICE process and small scratches and dust are removed. During the subsequent manual post-processing, we remove, for example, deeper scratches and improve the color balance and contrast of the image. On the other hand, major restoration work, such as those that occur after mold infestation, are not included in our standard offer. Please contact us for a quote in such cases.

Which scanners does ScanCorner use when digitizing negatives?

We mainly use the Epson V800 and V850 scanners. After a few years in which we had used the legendary Nikon Coolscan 5000 ED, we switched to the Epson scanners, because they achieved at least as good results but work faster. The scanners are equipped with the Epson Dual Lens System and support the DIGITAL ICE ™ technology, which enables us to achieve consistently top results when scanning films and photos.

What resolution (dpi) do you use when digitizing negatives?

The higher the resolution of an image, the higher the image quality. ScanCorner digitizes every image format with the optimal resolution, which - depending on the image format - is different. We usually digitize negatives with 3000 dpi, which corresponds to an approximate resolution of 10 megapixels. If you would like a higher resolution, please contact our customer service or indicate this when placing your order.

Can I use Digital ICE while scanning black and white negatives?

No, the ICE process cannot be used when digitizing black and white negatives. Digital ICE uses infrared light detection to detect dust and scratches. This application is not possible with the emulsion layer of black / white negatives. If you use the Digital-ICE anyway, the negative will be digitized out of focus. Therefore every single black and white negative has to be restored and processed by hand with Photoshop Elements. That is the reason why the digitization of black and white negatives is usually more expensive than the color digitization.

How can the privacy of my analog formats be guaranteed?

The privacy and protection of your analog media is of central importance to us. In order to prevent the misuse of your material and to protect your privacy, each order is only processed by one employee. In addition, there is no internet access on our internal servers. We can guarantee that your private memories will never be viewed by third parties.

Where can I find out the current progress of my order?

After each completed processing step, you will receive an automated status message from us. If you still want to check your current processing status on our website, please click on the "Log in" button and log in. The current status information will then be displayed.

What is special about the Eco-Scan?

With our Eco-Scan offer, you benefit from our special price without sacrificing quality. Since you meet us with the processing time, we do not have to send your originals back and we do not have to burn a DVD, we save costs that we pass on to you in full. Please note that we can send you your originals back up to 6 months later for a fee. After 6 months we will send you an email as a reminder before we destroy the originals.

How does the image quality of negatives deteriorate over time?

The image quality of negatives deteriorates over the years, even if they are kept in protected sleeves. Negatives are made up of chemicals that react very strongly to light, moisture and temperature changes. Over time, these chemicals will erode, resulting in poor image quality. This is noticeable through the yellow color and slight cracks. Dust, oil, dirt or certain gases also contribute to the deterioration of the image quality. The aging and deterioration of the image quality of the negatives is largely determined by climatic factors. In addition, the quality of the original film material also plays a decisive role.

How do you make sure the images are not reversed?

Negatives have a defined front and back. Checking this is part of our standard process. However, if individual slides have been lined up the wrong way round, scanned images may also be reversed. Please check this when you look at your online gallery and let us know your comments at info@scancorner.in

What is digital ICE?

Digital Image Correction and Enhancement (Digital ICE) is a manufacturer-independent technology for digital image correction that is integrated in many high-quality scanning devices. It works very reliably and guarantees a significant improvement in image quality as soon as it is scanned, as dust, scratches and other surface damage are automatically removed.
